Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee to meet Feb. 11 to consider condemnation compensation
The Maryland Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee scheduled a hearing on February 11, 2025, at 1:00 pm in Room 2 of the East Miller Senate Building to consider an energy related bill. The agenda and bill text are now available. The Committee is scheduled to hear the following bill:
- SB 661 Real Property – Condemnation – Compensation for Farm and Agricultural Property (Protect Maryland Farm Lands Act). SB 661 is cross-filed in the House as HB 81. If enacted, this bill would value farm and agricultural property acquired by condemnation, including for the construction or maintenance of electric transmission lines, at 350% of the highest appraisal value. All provisions will apply retroactively to condemnation proceedings initiated on or after January 1. 2024. If enacted, this bill would take effect on October 1, 2024.
