Maryland to hold a Special Legislative Session to elect new house speaker and vote on veto overrides, Dec. 16
On December 9, 2025, Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) signed an Executive Order and released an announced directing the Maryland General Assembly to hold a special session on December 16, 2025. The purpose of the special session is to elect a new House Speaker, following the decision by former House Speaker Adrienne Jones (D) to step down on December 4, 2025. As reported by the Maryland Matters, House Speaker Pro Tem Del. Dana Stein is serving as House Speaker in the interim until a new House Speaker is elected. We note the special session will also be used to consider veto overrides on bills passed by the legislature but not signed by the governor during the 2025 legislative session.
